Bookstart 20

March 22nd, 2012 No comments
Bookstart 20 Years 222x300 Bookstart 20
Bookstart is the first national bookgiving programme in the world, offering free books to all children  before they start school, to inspire a love of reading that will give them a flying start in life.  Booktrust initiated it in 1992 and in 2012 it is celebrating all it has achieved over the last twenty years.
They are asking for support to help secure it for the future and inviting people to make a simple pledge:  to share 20 books in 2012. This could not be easier and can be by reading picture books with  your own children or other members of your family at bedtime or at  anytime!  Reading to a group of  children in a school or a library.  Joining a reading group,  recommending books to your friends or posting a review on a website.
Visit Bookstart 20 for more information and to find out how to make your pledge.

Harriet Castor – Thursday, 26th April, 2012

March 21st, 2012 No comments
An evening with Harriet Castor, author of the acclaimed novel VIII, which explores the events which turned Henry from a golden prince into an irascible tyrant.
Harriet spoke at the One Day Conference, Picturing the Past, in November, but only had half an hour to tell us about the writing of VIII.   Her talk was so fascinating that many people wanted to hear more and we have been lucky that she has agreed to return to Ipswich to mark the paperback publication of the book.
This event is suitable for adults and teenagers 14+ and the cost is £7 per person, which includes a Tudor themed buffet.  After doing some research the chef has come up with a menu of refried butterbeans, vegetable potage with crusty bread, roasted chicken drumsticks and roasted root vegetables.  Drinks will need to be brought separately.  Books will also be on sale, which Harriet will be happy to sign.
If you are interested in what promises to be an enjoyable and interesting evening, please email jayne gould at  jayne.gould@btinternet.com or on 01473 714672.
